Prof. Osita Okagbue

Professor Osita Okagbue holds a BA, MA and PhD in Drama and Theatre from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and University of Leeds respectively.

He has taught African Theatre, Cross Cultural Studies in Performance, Performance Theory & Practice at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and University of Plymouth, Exmouth UK. Prof Okagbue’s main research interests are in African theatre and performances, Caribbean theatre, postcolonial theatre, theatre-for-development and African video films (Nollywood). He has written books on Theatre and Race (Palgrave, 2021 co-edited with Dr Tiziana Morosetti) and Theatre and Performances in East Africa, with Prof. Sam Kasule, Routledge, 2021).

At Goldsmiths, University of London, he is the Director of the MA World Theatres programme, and he teaches African Theatre History, Postcolonial Theatre, Culture and Performance, and Modernisms and Postmodernity. Professor Okagbue was Head, Department of Theatre and Performance (2015-2019), and convenes the MA World Theatres, Goldsmiths, University of London.

Prof Okagbue is the founding President of the African Theatre Association and founding Editor of African Performance Review (APR). He is also an Associate Editor for Routledge’s Theatres of the World Series.
