For additional learning and engagement with Nigerian arts and artefacts in London museums, a number of educational visits to
the British Museum and the Horniman Museum and Gardens took place.
40 people drawn from various communities, professions and backgrounds ((students, heritage officers and enthusiasts, librarians, etc.), undertook guided educational visits to The Sainsbury’s African Gallery at the British Museum and to the Horniman Museum and Gardens. Guided by archivists and curators with vast experience and knowledge of identifying and explaining the Nigerian heritage, participants had the unique opportunity to view and learn more about the Nigerian/African arts and artefacts in the museums’ collections.
African/Nigerian Supplementary Schools
26 people (children, young people, parents and supplementary schoolteachers) from Our Heritage UK and Treasure Supplementary School, participated in an educational visit to the Museum of London Docklands. They learnt about the museum’s collections, referencing Nigerian heritage and how the project resonates with the museum’s London, Sugar and Slavery Gallery.
