Christine Ohuruogu MBE

Christine Ijeoma Ohuruogu, MBE, is a British-Nigerian former track and field athlete and Olympic, World, and Commonwealth Champion. She was born to Nigerian parents in Newham and raised in Stratford, East London.

Christine won six World Championship medals in the women’s 4 x 400-meter relay as part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. Her personal best time of 49.41 seconds, set at the 2013 World Championships, beat the UK record, making her the first British woman to win two World Championship titles and the first British woman to win three successive global titles. Ohuruogu is the UK’s most successful female athlete, with a total of 26 medals won at major championships.

In 2009, she received an MBE for services to sport and was granted an honorary doctorate by the University of East London. She is the author of the children’s book Camp Gold, a series about an elite training school for athletes. Following her outstanding athletic career, Ohuruogu graduated in 2019 with a degree in law from Queen Mary’s University, London.
