Councillor Mayor Kate Anolue became the first Nigerian to be elected twice as the Mayor of the London Borough of Enfield in 2019 after first serving in the role in 2012. Born in Anambra State, Nigeria, Cllr Anolue came to Britain in 1972 to pursue her studies in nursing, eventually qualifying as a midwife. Cllr Anolue also holds a Law Degree.
Later, Ms Anolue served as a councillor at the Enfield borough for 12 years, during which she was bestowed the honour of Freedom of The Borough of Enfield in 2007 for services to the community. During her first term as Mayor, Cllr Anolue raised funds for sickle cell as well as for young people leaving care and disabled children.
Cllr Anolue is the Founder of the Forum for African Women in Politics as well as the Founder and CEO of ‘TenderCare’ a charity supporting teenage mothers, fathers, widows and lone women. She has been made a Chief in her hometown in Nigeria. Cllr Anolue has won many awards including ‘Woman of the Year 2014’ by the Nigerian Watch Newspaper and the ‘Nigerian Centenary Award UK 2014’. In 2016, Cllr Anolue received the Women4Africa Recognition Award.
