Efan Ekoku, born Efangwu Goziem Ekoku is a former soccer player turned soccer analyst and commentator. He was born in Manchester and began his career at Sutton United in 1989. After one season, Ekoku joined Bournemouth in 1990, spending three seasons there.
He signed a $650,000 deal with Norwich City in 1993 and joined the English Premier League becoming the first British-Nigerian to join the league. He left Norwich City to join Wimbledon Football Club in 1994 for a reported £1 million. During his five years, he scored a total of 37 goals. Ekoku moved to Switzerland in 1999 and joined the Grass Shoppers Club for approximately £500,000. He moved back to England in 2001 and joined Sheffield Wednesday. Followed by one season with Brentford Football Club before ending his career at Dublin City in 2004.
After retiring, Ekoku began a broadcasting career. He works as a commentator for the Barclays Premier League and an analyst at the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network covering the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Ekoku contributes to the UK’s BT Sports on the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga. Additionally, Ekoku is a frequent guest on Bloomberg Africa’s Football Dynamics. Ekoku holds coaching licenses from both the FA and the UEFA.
