Femi Elufowoju Jr OBE, is a British-Nigerian, playwright, theatre and opera director. He is the second theatre director of African heritage to establish a national touring company in the UK, named Tiata Fahodzi in1997. As Artistic Director, he produced more than 30 plays with the company, including Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame and Oladipo Agboluaje’s Iya-Ile: The First Wife, nominated for the Olivier Award. During the same period, Elufowoju Jr was an Associate Director at the Almeida Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.
In 2022, Elufowoju Jr made his opera debut as a director of Verdi’s Rigoletto, for Opera North in Leeds, featuring famous opera singer, Sir Willard White. Elufowoju Jr received an OBE in June 2023 from King Charles III for his contributions to the British theatre.
